Welcome

Hello!

Welcome to the home of Bridgend Chess Club online. Here you will find the latest club news, league results and further information on how to join the original chess club based in Bridgend and Porthcawl.

We currently have three teams that all compete in the East Glamorgan Chess League that comprises of teams from South Wales around Cardiff, Bridgend and the Valleys. Our teams (A-C) compete in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd division respectively.

We meet every MONDAY at 7:30 p.m upstairs in Aberkenfig Social and Athletic Club (the address can be found on our Where? page). The club has free parking around the back, is easily accessible from Bridgend and the surrounding area and  serves a fine selection of drinks (alcoholic and soft!).

Membership is open to everyone of all ages  and abilities (although we recommended young children be accompanied by an adult). Whether you’re looking to play competitive chess, brush up your skills or just meet some like minded friends we offer a friendly and  relaxed atmosphere to learn, play and enjoy.

Have a look around our site to find out more about the team and our members. If you would like more information take a look at the Contacts page for all the ways you can get in touch.

Hope to hear from you soon.

  1. Hi, my son has just turned 8 and has been playing chess for about a year with his dad and sister and is absolutely addicted and has asked if there is a club he can join. Ideally I’d like it to be where he can play against kids of all ages so wondered if your club has kids or whether you could suggest somewhere near Bridgend that does.
